11th Annual Northwoods Music and Art Festival

We are busy getting ready for a day of great artist booths and amazing live music on Saturday, August 19th! Musical guests include Andrew Salgado- Nashville, Whiskey River-downstream- Minneapolis, Howard “Guitar” Luedtke & Blue Max, Tani Riel- Twin Cities/Hayward

Gates open at 11:30am
Live outdoor music runs from 12-10pm
Artist booths run from 12-6pm
Food and Beer Tent opens at 12pm
Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for teens, 12/under is free.
Bring your lawn chairs and cash (no ATM on site) for the outdoor food/beer tent.
No Carry-ins allowed.

The snowmobile trails are open, So are we!

The trails have suffered from the heavy wet snow, with most being impassable due to bent and broken trees and limbs across the trails. Volunteers (yes, all trail work is done by volunteers) have been working tirelessly to get the trails cleared and opened. As of right now, the vast majority of the trails are open, groomed and in excellent condition. This is only possible because of the efforts of the volunteers who have struggled through the snow to clear and open the trials! If you meet up with a groomer or volunteer, give them a hardy thumbs up, or buy them a drink. They deserve it!

Tani Riel – I am from the Twin Cities area, but spend weekends out on Moose Lake with my husband, 2 daughters, and our Moose Lake family. I’ve been singing since I could talk, and thanks to my dad, my desire to play guitar was born at a young age. I grew up singing along to country music playing on the kitchen radio and learned how to play guitar with my Eagles Anthology book. Weddings, karaoke, and campfires kept me busy, but thanks to Boulder Lodge “Friday Night Band Practice” I was able to share my love for music with some great new friends. I joined one of those friends, Mark Hintz, to make Rebel Plaid and played at Cranberry Festival and the Birkebiener opener, and look forward to playing at future venues. When I’m not singing out and about, I’m singing with preschoolers as I teach them and get them ready for the world.

Molly & the Danger Band – “You could call them a rock/country/jazz/bluegrass/celtic band, but they are really an Americana band. The blending of different Americana roots creates a unique musical cocktail. From classic covers, traditional and original music, no matter what you call it, you’re bound to have a good time!

“Brave Cowboy” – Eric Schubring and Jason Rabuck formed their duo several years ago and have played all around the region. They play a variety of music from Blue Grass to Americana. You will find them both multi talented between vocals in musical instruments.

Curt Stone – a Twin-Town bon vivant (whatever that means), enjoys guitar playing, which he has been doing for over 50-years. (yea, you’d think he’d be better at it by now). A real bon vivant, he’s played in some good bands in the 60’s and 70’s: Fast Company, Little K and the Fabulous Internationals, before joining a facilities management cult at the U of M for decades of toil and trouble. More recently he’s played with Judd Erickson, Whiskey River, Tom Draughan, while being a serial bon vivant. Most importantly he has supporting the rich, eclectic mixture of music with his son Eli Stone. Eli has worked as a studio engineer, music video writer and arranger, guitar amp builder, robot builder, and up-and-coming bon vivant. Eli has worked and played with a broad spectrum of Twin Cities music/arts talent in all manner of musical styles, films and animation. In contrast to his old man, he’s a really good guitar player! Together they fight crime, and bon vivant the heck out of stuff!

Andrew SalgadoAndrew Salgado, who has been signed with Synapse Publishing & Entertainment since 2017, came to prominence winning a national singer-songwriting competition, has penned songs with legends, toured with some of country music’s biggest icons, released several well-received indie albums, and had his music featured in film and theatre.  The Nashville based recording artist with Chicago roots, is about to release his third album, 86 VOL 2 in fall 2021 and it’s clear that these accolades are merely platforms creating key opportunities to give back and be in the service of helping and uplifting others as he spends much of his time donating his services to and helping youth charities. He’s co-written or opened for Brian Wilson, Kacey Musgraves, Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith, Eli Young, Clint Black and Darryl Worley. He was also featured for the past three years on the nationally-aired PBS special “Songs at the Center” and has had appearances on WGN, ABC and NBC. Paddle North Outdoor Canoe Expo to be held on the grounds of Boulder Lodge June 12th

Paddle North Outdoor Canoe Expo

Saturday, June 12, 2021  10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

True North Guiding and Outfitters along with Esquif Canoes is holding a free one day canoe expo here at Boulder Lodge on June 12th.  The day will be a fun, informational, and social event that will focus on providing information about buying a canoe, canoe designs, canoe fishing , and paddle demonstrations by experts in the industry.  “We became dealers of Esquif canoes (pronounced Es-skeef, and means ‘small boat’ in French)  because they hands down have the most versatile line of canoes that fit the needs of our area.  Brenda and I guide out of the Rangeley all summer and it just might be the perfect up north cabin boat” said John Maier from True North.   “It’s just that Esquif is a small Canadian company from Quebec, and the brand doesn’t have much penetration in our area… but we are confident when people see and try these boats, they will appreciate the high quality, and how the design and construction perfectly fits the diverse needs of paddlers in northern Wisconsin”.  We will be offering an exclusive show discount for purchases and boat orders made that day.

So come on out and take the opportunity to demo a canoe or Rangeley on beautiful Ghost Lake.  Talk paddling and fishing with experts, and enjoy lunch and a cold beverage from Bent Paddle brewing, our official beer sponsor.  Bring a chair and listen to music on the deck provided by “Off the Hook”.  The lodge will be open for full bar and menu service and there will be a food special of the day.  Our event partners at this time are Quiet Lakes Improvement Association, Cable Natural History Museum, Wilderness Inquiry, and Bent Paddle Brewing. We look forward to seeing you on the 12th!

Nashville singer “Andrew Salgado” to hold virtual concert Friday, November 13th

Boulder Lodge and the Park Center are pleased to announce an upcoming virtual concert featuring Nashville recording artist Andrew Salgado. Many of you will remember him from the 2019 Northwoods Music and Art Festival here at Boulder Lodge or his performance at the Park Center. He is one hell of a musician and performer.

In these difficult times, some of us have been affected more that others. Musicians and music venues have been hit particularly hard. Musicians are self-employed and are generally not eligible for unemployment benefits. If they’re not working, they’re not able to pay their bills. The same is true for the venues that have been unable to open. The bills keep coming, but the doors are shut.

In an effort to come up with new and imaginative ways for live music and musicians to survive, this project was hatched. Proceeds from this concert will be going to the musicians and the Park Center, so please, buy a ticket, make some popcorn, and experience a virtual live concert to support arts!

Long live live music

Tickets are $12.00. To order your ticket, Click Here  Be sure to select the concert on November 13th, benefiting the Park Center.

Art and Music Festival

We have a fantastic line up of musicians for our 8th annual Music & Art Festival this year…………Starting out with “Sonofmel”

local musicians
Sonofmel ………..Local musician, song writer, guitarist, vocalist and harmonica player will take the stage at noon.

Sometimes it takes traveling far from home to find out where you come from…

… after 20 years of wandering the globe and combing the sites, lights, sounds, and shadows for signs of the sacred sprung from the profane, time warrants a return to the mid west with a time-worn guitar, fistfuls of chords strung up with verse, bringing the foreign
home to the familiar…

John Sonofmel’s music comes from experiences throughout his life. All original songs that come from deep within and sometimes with dark thoughts, John has a unique style. He has taken his music on the road from time to time but he can be seen and heard live every Saturday afternoon at “Out of the Woods Winery” as well as many other local establishments.

Music Festival
Curt and Eli Stone

Curt and Eli Stone are back again by popular demand. This father, son duo have been playing together for the past several years and even though Curt says his son is a much better guitar player than he is, their blend and mix of sounds is quite pleasing. Eli plays some mezmerizing music as a soloist with his guitar, you won’t want to miss. Curt has played guitar for over 50 years and along the way has gone on to perform with some notables: Fast Company, Little K and the Fabulous Inernationals, Judd Erickson, Whisky River and Tom Draughan.

Molly and the Danger Band
Molly & the Danger Band

Molly and the Danger Band, also back by popuar demand, will take the stage at 4pm. It just wouldn’t be a festival without Molly and her band returning every year to liven up the crowd. Molly with her fiddle, mandolin, guitar and vocals, Tom with guitar, fiddle and vocals, and Randy on bass, percussion and vocals brings together an energetic mix of sound. It is always a pleasure to watch great performers playing everything from Americana, Bluegrass to Newgrass, Classic Rock and Celtic.

Andrew Salgado

Then last (but definately not least) to finish off the evening, and taking the stage about 7pm, all the way from Nashville, TN, Andrew Salgado and his band will light up the night with more of a country flair……….

Nashville based Singer/Songwriter Andrew Salgado has co-written or performed with Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith, Darryl Worley, Clint Black, Brian Wilson/ Kacey Musgraves, and others.

In 2019 his song “Back Home” was placed in the feature film, Heavens to Betsy 2, which Woman’s Day Magazine named one of the top 10 Christian films to see in 2019. His music can be heard on Pandora, Spotify, Apple Music, and at his website, www.AndrewSalgado.net.

Andrew is currently being featured on the nationally-aired PBS special, Songs at the Center as well as been featured extensively on WGN, ABC, and NBC.  http://www.pbs.org/video/2365959618

In the Fall of 2019 Andrew we’ll be headlining “The NO Genre Tour” featuring support acts from all genres. Country, Pop, Latin, Soul and more. “I’m so excited about this tour, we get to share the stage with great acts in and outside of country music. I’m truly looking forward to it.” Salgado said.

When Andrew isn’t on the road touring, he is working extensively with charities to help raise funds and awareness. Andrew has worked with Autism Speaks, Love Christian Clearinghouse, UCP, and many more. He is currently serving his second year as the National Spokesperson for Music Over Miles, a charity that focuses on programs for schools and youth ages 11-18.https://musicovermiles.org/
